Advancing Youth Development (AYD) Sessions
Core Competencies for Youth Workers
In this session, we will explore what it takes to be a youth worker. We will begin by defining who a youth worker is, and then examine the Core Competencies needed by youth development workers knowledge, skills, and personal attributes. These demonstrated capabilities allow a youth worker to be a resource to youth, organizations, and to the community.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
This session will look at assumptions that adults frequently make about young people. These assumptions, especially when theyre about a group of people, often result in a feeling of disrespect for the recipient. Most of us have encountered some kind of disrespect in our lives, and know how uncomfortable that may have been. So, it is important that, as adults working with young people, we examine our assumptions about young people.
Positive Youth Development Outcomes
This session will examine the beliefs, behaviors, knowledge attributes and skills that result in a healthy and productive adolescence and adulthood. Participants will learn about and practice a strengths based approach and identify opportunities and supports that promote positive youth development outcomes.
