Boot Camp builds excellent Site Coordinators
This July, site coordinators from around the Midwest will come together in Lawrence, Kansas to participate in Boot Camp. The three-day, intensive training will launch the group in the Communities In Schools site coordinator certification program.
The certification program was created to increase the knowledge and professionalism of those at the heart of our organization, who work with and make an impact on the lives of young people every day.
To become a certified site coordinator, the twelve-course online program must be completed in a one-year period. The Boot Camp will put site coordinators on the fast track to success by taking them through the first five courses in three days with a combination of live training sessions and online courses.
When the program is complete, site coordinators will be well versed in several areas. Building off of a foundation of essentials in youth work, site coordinators will explore leadership principles and how to build a strong team in a changing environment. Leading the school needs assessment and developing a site plan are essential components for a strong backbone at every Communities In Schools school.
Once the groundwork is laid, the focus will turn to providing the best services to the young people at our schools. Site coordinators will learn about raising achievement using the proven-CIS Model, leading school wide and case management services, and study research on identifying risk factors and strategies for successful programs.
To encourage extended learning and professional development, site coordinators will have the opportunity to explore research on providing quality youth programming that may be unique to their school. Finally, site coordinators will become masters of effective data collection, evaluation and reporting to showcase that the work that they are doing really is making a positive impact on the students and school.
Kansas currently has 16 site coordinators and 4 learning managers enrolled in the program. The next group of site coordinators to go through the training will launch in September, with the ultimate goal of having every site coordinator enrolled in the program by the end of 2012.
