Results from the 2011-2012 School Year
Students across Kansas continue to show improvement with the help of Communities In Schools. Last school year, each of our case-managed students had a custom plan, often including mentors and tutors, family support, and much more. We track the progress of these students, and they showed great success in all areas:
98% stayed in school
93% improved their attitude
89% were promoted to the next grade
88% improved behavior
86% of eligible seniors graduated
85% decreased suspensions
80% improved academics
75% decreased high risk behavior
74% improved attendance
Our programs reached many more students – 15,731 in total – through our whole-school programs. At our 53 schools throughout Kansas we coordinated programs such as school supply and coat drives, holiday assistance, prevention programs, service learning events, and even financial literacy. We couldn’t do it all alone – 468 partners and 1,665 volunteers all helped make it possible. All of this support helped make our services very cost effective – only $164 per student for the whole year.
